Join to Eat & Enjoy The Grog's Sunday Nite Blues ~ Meet Some New Sailing Friends

Live blues band starts to play at 6pm at The Grog in Newburyport. Join there for dinner at 5p, make some new sailing friends. Come prepared to mix it up & share your own Sailing Tales, Lies & Exaggerated Adventures. Then, enjoy one of the area's best long standing blues venues. Which also sports a nice little dance floor too, for those who can't help but shake a leg, when music is playing.

Great to catch up with friends and meet new ones from other meetups

To answer Claudia's question - the dancing was terrific! Perhaps we could get a table for dining and talking on the other side of the restaurant or upstairs. Those of us who danced had a great time - looking for more fun loving suspects in the future! It was great to see everyone and meet new people. Thank you Maureen for all your good work.

Thanks for all the work Maureen and cross-posting. Definitely great to see people I knew, and meet new ones! Looks like we've got some potentional new crew and sailors too!

Once again, a job well done!

Thanks all for coming out & contributing in making a fun & interesting event. Cross posting this was an experiment. It seemed to work (yes?) Lively & fun. I really enjoyed meeting so many new people, with quite a variety of backgrounds & interests too. What did you think? How was this for you, for the time invested?

Apologies on the awkward placement of being seated right above the band. I know this made the noise level a little tough in the 2nd half of the evening, & the band seemed to ramp it up as the evening wore on. I'm sure this caused some us to lose some bits of conversation

All that extra background noise also made it a little harder to unite the opposite ends of the table too. So I'll look for quieter venue for any "next time" mixers. Especially since most skipped the band, which I mistakenly thought to be part of the draw

Nice to know that the "draw" was actually the promise of sharing good company with collected sailors & social souls~

Hope all had safe travel home~

Was a good time and valuable venue Maureen...especially with the cross posting!
I personally enjoyed meeting others outside of our club from the other sailing meetups...as well as connecting with those I haven't seen for awhile and finally being able to chat with you.
My perception was that all was very good...food was great and it was hard to arrange a table where all can communicate with that number, but we moved around to mix up just fine. How was the dancing? Hope to join in next time! Thanks for arranging once again and now I know where to go for inexpensive goatskin sailing gloves!

Sunday nite's reservation is in name "Maureen" for 5p seating, on 1st Floor (=Street Level). Anyone wanting to mingle in the bar shortly before 5p is sure to find some wayward sailors collecting there. Dinners are all on separate checks. Cover for the band is $7

You are, of course, most welcome to do Blues w/out Dinner, or Dinner w/out Blues ~ But if Not doing Dinner ~ Please let me know so I can true-up the table count, which we'd like to get right, as it's a busy time for the restaurant

This gathering was cross posted with other Boston area sailing meet-ups. You can read the postings & profiles of the respondents, if curious to anticipate who we might be meeting.

Looking forward to seeing you all, & meeting a few new faces (new to me, that is). It looks to be a fun round up!

Greetings to all who are Groggy ~

We are getting a nice little turn-out (=manageable & fun) from our southern compatriots, whom I've taken the liberty of taunting (on your behalf) w/minor NauticaTrivia challenge, & suggestion to come prepared with tales or seamanly lies of sailing adventures

No tales of your own to tell? Check out this site for some curious tales (I like: 4-months prego 19yr's husband collapses in storm. She takes the helm, sails Clipper around Cape Horn, 1857)
    http://www.nshof.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=349&Itemid=75

Some goodies here for diom-Trivia, tho not the most accurate, explanation of origin for "three sheets to the wind" the rest are OK> http://www.offshoresailing.com/sailing-tips/sailing-trivia.aspx

This one takes a shot at story behind "shake a leg" but, If you're feeling competitive, Google for alternate theories

    Hello Maureen
It just so happens I plan to be down in AMesbury at Lowells Boat shop, for their annual holiday party from 11-4. I planned to go there after 2pm or so. Maybe I'll head over after Lowells to the Grog and bring some friends. Haven't been there in years, but it is a great place. And perfect for this time of year!

Hey~ nice to hear from you, hope you can make it. I was looking up Lowells the other day, thinking it might make an interesting posting. Found the site but somehow missed discovering any info about tours or events or hours for "museum" being open to walk thru's. Is their Holiday Party something you could post as a VYC event? There might be some interested takers (is it open to public? or just for donating supporters? I've heard many nice references to the place being quite interesting but got a little frustrated trying to figure out their visitor hours?? had the feeling I was being thick... like it must have been staring me in the face & I just couldn't see it for some reason) Can you enlighten with some info or instruction? ~MT

    Hi Maureen,

I'll be thinking of everyone...having fun. It's swim meet season now. Mia is on the Y team and has a meet in White River Junction, VT at Upper Valley Aquatics Center that day...I'll be able to do more after mid March when swim season ends...Until then I hope everyone has fun.
