NW Veg's Vancouver Potluck

Find friends and good food at our regular Vancouver potluck followed by hearing the incredible and inspirational story of author and Holocaust survivor Alter Wiener.

Mr. Wiener was born in October of 1926 in Chrzanów, Poland. He lived a quiet and traditional life with his family in Chrzanów until at a young age he was deported from his home by Nazi officers in the middle of the night. Mr. Wiener was then enslaved for three years in five forced labor and concentration camps. When liberated, Mr. Weiner weighed eighty pounds and was burdened with many health issues. He is the only survivor of his immediate family and lost almost his entire extended family in the Holocaust as well. He credits his adoption of a vegetarian diet for bringing him back to health.

Come to the Potluck at 6:30, the presentation at 7:30, or both. The potluck and presentation will be in the Oak/Elm Room at the Marshall Center, 1009 E. McLoughlin, Vancouver, WA 98663 [see map]. This is just over the I-5 Bridge - very quick to reach from Portland.

For the potluck, please bring a plant-based (no animal products, including honey) main dish, salad, or dessert; a card listing its ingredients; and plates and utensils for your use. Need plant-based ideas? Click here. If you come alone, figure the amount to serve 4-6; increase the amount 4 servings for each additional person in your party/family. Northwest VEG potlucks are alcohol-free events. For more information email [masked]. A donation of $2-5 is suggested to help cover the cost of the room rental.

if you cannot get a ride you can get there by public transport ... From Portland, i recommend: Trimet Yellow Line train to Delta Park [Vanport], then you can take CTRAN bus number-44 to McLoughlin Street by Clark College. it is a short walk from there to the Marshall Center. Or you can get the number-4 from DP to downtown Vancouver... then connect to either the 30, 44 or 47 bus. Or i could collect people from downtown Vancouver , send me a meetup message to arrange pickup. If you have bicycle you can take trimet Yellow Line to Expo Center, and bicycle from there (over the Jantzen Beach bridges. CTRAN also operates route 105 I-5 commuter express bus service non-stop from downtown Portland to downtown Vancouver, those work for the trip there, but not for the trip back, they do not run late.
