10th Annual Compassionate Thanksgiving

  • Nov 24, 2013 · 5:00 PM
  • Benson High School

On Sunday, November 24th, at 5:00pm, join Northwest VEG, other vegans, vegetarians, and veg-curious as we celebrate community and healthy plant-based food.

The 10th annual Compassionate Thanksgiving potluck will stimulate your palate and give you the opportunity to meet new people. We're anticipating our largest potluck ever! The event will be held in Benson High School's cafeteria, 546 NE 12th Ave., Portland 97232. Doors will open at 4:30pm

Due to the cost of the facility rental, pre-registration with payment of $5 per person is required. Children 10 and under are free. Registration is now open at http://nwveg.org/thanksgiving!!

Northwest VEG will provide beverages. Please bring especially generous potluck dishes to share: a plant-based main dish, side dish, salad, bread, or dessert, a card listing its ingredients in dark ink and clear print, and plates and utensils for your use. If you come by yourself, figure the amount to serve 8-10; increase the amount by 4 servings for each additional person in your party/family.

*We'll also need a couple dozen volunteers at least, so if you are willing to help out at this event let either Chelsea Davis or Deanna Cintas know.*

If you haven't registered online, you have to take your chances at the door, as online registration is closed. We will have about 20 spots for door people and space for those who registered but were unable to pay. I would recommend coming as close to 4:30pm to have your best chance at getting in. See you soon! :)

    November 24, 2013

  • deanna

Just 20 more online registration spots left! If you haven't bought your ticket yet, do so to ensure a spot this year! :)

    Hello!

Below is information you should find helpful, including a suggestion for what food to bring to Compassionate Thanksgiving this year. NW VEG will provide hot and cold beverages. (This is an alcohol free event. Please do not bring any.)

Public Transportation: Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave MAX station (.3 miles from Benson). Multiple bus lines nearby. Please use TriMet to plan.
Parking: Street parking on 12th Ave. and surrounding area lots. Food Suggestion (by last name):
A-F: Side Dish (grains, fruits, salads, breads, starches etc)
G-R: Main Dish (Protein rich- roasts, tofu, tempeh etc)
S-Z: Dessert (preferably in individual portions or pre-sliced)

Back by popular demand- the Kids Corner! A place for kids to be away from the dinner table and have some fun with crafts and games!

Mingle BINGO! Meet people via an interactive game of BINGO! Some prizes, too!

    See you soon!

Sounds like she's having the same issue I had, I could register and get confirmation of that, but not be able to pay. The go around was for Eric to send me an address to make a PP payment to.

    November 17, 2013

    • deanna

did you get in touch with Eric?

      November 19, 2013

    • Scott

Yes, that's how I got the address and was able to pay.

Are there (re-)heating faciliites there? We're thinking of bringing a tofurkey or similar, so want to plan appropriately.

    November 18, 2013

    • deanna

There are only a few outlets for those with crockpots. There will not be an oven, stove, or microwave for us to use. For this reason we encourage people bringing warm things to cover them with foil, and if possible bring them in an insulated bag. We will try and keep everything covered until the last minute. But, for the record, I will eat cold tofurky :)

    November 4, 2013

    • Debbie K.

There are always lots of gluten free choices.

      2 · November 4, 2013

    • deanna

There are also usually some raw dishes as well

I'll be going with my daughter who has a lot of allergies (including sesame, soy, nuts and flax) so appreciate that everything is labeled.

    November 1, 2013

    • deanna

People usually write down the ingredients in each of the dishes they bring, like at Northwest Veg potlucks, so that's how people can see what fits their dietary requirements and what doesn't. :)

      November 4, 2013

  • deanna

Registration is now open at http://nwveg.org/thanksgiving!!

    November 4, 2013

  • Scott
