Find friends, great food and a lively presentation by the owners of The Herbivore Clothing Company, the vegan clothing, cookbook and lifestyle store and book publisher located in Portland's own Vegan Mini-Mall, at our December potluck. Following our 6:30 potluck, Michelle Schwegmann and Josh Hooten will present Compassion during the Holiday Season; Family, Friends, the Animals and You at 7:30. Regardless of your religious leanings, one thing everyone can agree on is that kindness and compassion should be at the top of everyone's wishlist during the holidays. Michelle and Josh will talk to us about how compassion can lead the way through everything from shopping, to meal planning, to getting along with your annoying Uncle Harold who won't stop with the meat jokes. Come to the potluck, the presentation or both!
A bit more about how awesome Josh and Michelle are: Josh founded and ran Herbivore Magazine for five years, and is the co-founder of the Let Live Animal Rights Conference, which ran for three years. He is the author of 600 Miles to Goat, A Book About A Bike Ride, which chronicles his 600 mile journey via bicycle from Portland to Farm Sanctuary in Orland, CA. That ride celebrated his first 10 years of veganism and raised more than $13,000. Josh also co-founded the Sanctuary Century 100 mile bike ride which is in it's 5th year, and will surpass the $125,000 dollar mark this year for funds raised and donated to animal sanctuaries. Not only is Josh the Art Director for Herbivore, his is responsible for amazing designs featured by amazing advocacy groups like Mercy for Animals, Food Empowerment Project and The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
When not at Herbivore, Michelle can be found hanging out with her vegan daughter, Ruby Bird, or cooking and working on her forthcoming cookbook for new ethical vegans called Eat Like You Give a Damn.
