The Basics of Health and Diet: Presentation by Richard Heitsch, MD, MPH, FACS January 16, 6:30 pm
For those excited about Forks Over Knives, here is a chance to hear from a experienced doctor and ask questions about foods and your health. On January 16, following the Portland Eastside potluck, Dr Richard Heitsch will talk about changing diets to prevent or reverse chronic diseases. He will talk in particular about protein - how much do we need, are there differences between animal and plant protein, and can we get too much protein. Dr, Heitsch is a vegan doctor, certified surgeon, holds a masters degree in public health, and serves as medical director for the Integrated Medicine Group here in Portland. Recently Dr. Heitsch worked with Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn to take the practices developed at the Cleveland Clinic (highlighted in Forks Over Knives) and bring them to Portland.
For the potluck, please bring a plant-based (no animal products, including honey) main dish, salad, or dessert; a card listing its ingredients; and plates and utensils for your use. Need plant-based ideas? Click here. If you come alone, figure the amount to serve 4–6 generously; increase the amount 4 servings for each additional person in your party/family. Northwest VEG potlucks are alcohol-free events, and we start eating at about 5:15. For more information, call[masked] or email [masked]. A donation of $2–5 per person is suggested to help cover the cost of the room rental.
