What's your favorite food or dish?

Very freshly baked ciabatta, virtually steaming from the oven. Or pasta with Italian flavors. For a cheesier taste on the pasta, I've been experimenting with a dash of powdered ascorbic acid (Vit C) with nutritional yeast. The ascorbic acid works if you want to add the tang of a very sharp cheddar but don't want the additional fruity flavor components of lemon juice or a vinegar. Raspberries and blueberries. Love mushrooms or mushrooms with vegetables or mushrooms in pasta or rice. Did I mention mushrooms?

How old are you?

Old enough to know better.

How long have you been and why are you a vegan or interested in becoming a vegan?

I've never liked the idea of killing animals for meat, even as a child, remember gagging too often, but my mother (and society at that time) believed that meat was NECESSARY... Mom taught that the body must have at least a little every day, and red meat was the best. After reading "Diet for a Small Planet" about 35 years ago, I slipped easily into vegetarianism. Recently, a naturopath said I had a "food intolerance" for dairy. Looking backward all the way, I reluctantly let go of my beloved butter and cheese, and now feel so much healthier. One of the things that helped me to this decision was awareness of the cruelty toward and exploitation of food producing animals. I knew I was kidding myself that I was seeking out "the best sources" for dairy and eggs when I thought I wanted to eat them, but I now appreciate that, short of owning my own cow and chickens, there is no "best source".

What do you like to do in your free time?

I write, read, think, cook, create Netflix movie marathons (several works by one director or by one actor or some theme). Reading tends to be non-fiction. I enjoy programs from the Teaching Co.: Renaissance history now. My go to radio is jazz. I draw and am exploring watercolor ptg, would like to create illustrations reminiscent of Arthur Rackham. I love costume design, get a kick out of inventing creative "work arounds" and "systems". I love junque-picking in out of the way places and am trying to gain momentum in setting myself up to sell on eBay or Etsy so I can have more room to stash new creations and new treasures. I recently undertook the challenge of writing to a prisoner in a Federal penitentiary through a Unitarian Universalist letter writing project, and I find it quite absorbing and challenging at the moment. I am thinking about a way to write a book around this fascinating experience. Want to become more activist around veganism.

Introduction

Curiosity is my strongest trait. I'm new to PDX, living single with my cat Tsunami, and looking for tribal connections. I have a very diverse work background, now exploring my true loves. ENTP if you're into MBTI and Enneagram Seven.
