Hello and welcome to our many new members! We are now at 952 members which means we have a lot of new people who want to socialize, learn, and meet others in the Portland Metro Area. Because we have so many newbies, and because of a recent frustration with the Blossoming Lotus event, I wanted to take this opportunity to write and remind you all of our policy when RSVPing (especially to events that have limited space or require a reservation).
We want you to attend as many meetups as they want. However, if your plans change we also expect you to be responsible and considerate of others (and provide adequate notice of that change). Tonight, there was a Blossoming Lotus dine out. It was capped at 20 people, and had a waitlist of at least 10 people I believe. This situation sometimes happens- too many people want to go to the same (limited capacity) event. However, a few people changed their RSVP within a few minutes of the start of the event, or RSVPd yes and never showed up. The event ended up having only 15 people attend, which means 10 others (from the waitlist) missed out because of someone else's lack of consideration and adequate notice.
A year or so ago, as a NW Veg Board, we talked about a reasonable policy and decided on one that many other groups on Meetup implement as well. If someone repeatedly RSVP's then doesn't show, or changes an RSVP within the half hour of the event starting, I will have to ban them. After the first and even second time I will just send an email, because things come up. But, in this day and age of smart phones and internet access everywhere, it isn't acceptable to do this multiple times, nor is it fair, or considerate to others.
Let me know if you have any questions, or if you have any ideas on how we can improve the way we do things as a Meetup Group.
Thanks so much, and hope to see you soon!
