In Acorn Organica: A Healing Arts Space, 4110 SE Hawthorne Blvd., Portland, OR
We are upstairs in the UPS building. Enter Hawthorne side.
One Heart CircleSongs are for people who wish to re-merge their authentic voices in a transcendent, fun, safe and meaningful way. Each song is a guided improvisation of A Cappella harmonies, rhythms and really great vibrations. Together we will co-create a new vocal paradigm that nourishes the spirit, soothes the soul and carries forth joy into the world.
I usually begin each CircleSong jam with a few minutes of vocal warm-ups and, when asked, I enjoy sharing a bit of vocal technique to help everyone sing comfortably. From there we explore the energizing, tribal, harmonically charged, meditative, chant driven infusion of songs. Each song is different from the last. Some sessions have no break from start to finish, sometimes fun musical games are played so we can better tune in to our partners. Come experience the wide ranging energies of VOICE!
Marie Black is a singer, songwriter and is a graduate of the Transformational Voice Institute's Voice Teacher Apprenticeship program. She became hooked on CircleSongs in 1991 at Bobby McFerrin's Chant for World Peace at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. She has since studied the CircleSong form with Bobby McFerrin and his crew of teachers including Rhiannon, Dave Worm and others.
This meetup is $10 to keep the circle going. No one turned away for lack of funds.
Are children allowed? While children are welcome to sit quietly, in my experience this is an adult event. It can be too loud for youngsters, or they may become restless, which then can be disruptive to the trance-like or meditative journey of the group.
Do you take checks? In a jam, yes, but cash is preferable.
Do you take credit cards? Yes. There is a $.50 processing fee for credit cards.
