Our vocal group is called the Voices of Reason. We sing a cappella and choral music with a secular/atheist/humanist twist! We practice on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, plus occasional performances. (Please note we are NOT meeting on May 12 due to Mother's Day.) Our intention in having a meetup group is for others to know how to find us, and it seems like it'll help find the right people better than Craigslist! At this moment, we have approximately eight existing regular members (who will hopefully add their names here on meetup... hint hint!), but we truly need around 12 singers to make our group function well.
Of course, learning songs and improving is an ongoing process, so please join the group if you are able to meetup more than just once. There are no group fees and you can always change your mind! Each member of the group is democratically involved to ensure we're collectively making good choices, and likewise, our songs and their genres vary. If you can read music, that will help, and if you don't, we have practice audio files to help you learn the tunes. Either way, you'll get a lot out of this group as you grow your musicianship and ability to harmonize/blend.
Our group is really about having fun and becoming better musicians, first and foremost. It really doesn't matter what your religious or political beliefs are, as the ultimate agenda of this group is to sound great together and entertain.
More details about our practice location (in Echo Park), sheet music, etc are on our meetup calendar which is available to members after joining. Once we feel like we've got enough members, we'll most likely close this meetup group. For genera, non-membership inquiries, please write to us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (424) 222-9095.
