Super Stars Literacy helps children from low-income families to achieve their academic potential by running a stellar afterschool tutoring program. Fact is, children who are not reading at grade level by the end of the third grade are at serious risk of never graduating from high school. Therefore, SSL works with students in kindergarten through second grade to start their educations on the right track.
In order to make its programs possible, SSL hosts a gala fundraiser each year in March. But before the gala can even happen, everything needs to be set up for it.
On this day, we will be building 30 centerpieces with literacy themes that will be featured during the gala. If you have a flare for simple construction or art, this is your calling. Even if you don't, there will be many other ways you can help.
Lunch will be provided. We will meet outside the entrance to the Walnut Creek BART and head over (very close). If you take BART in, there will be plenty of space for you in one of the carpools. If you drive in, you can follow the caravan.
