For two decades, Rebuilding Together has been providing much needed home repairs for the low-income and elderly population in the community. On this day, we will be helping to renovate the home of an elderly couple.
Charles is a vietnam veteran who was exposed to Agent Orange while in combat. Because of his exposure to the carcinogen, he has suffered from multiple bouts of cancer throughout his lifetime.
After returning to civilian life, Charles and his wife have lived in and maintained their bungalow in Berkeley on their own. But now that they have gotten older, it has become increasingly difficult for them to take care of their home. That's where we come in!
Lots of work have already been done on prior volunteer days, so the house is beginning to look good. Our primary task this day will be to prepare the exterior of the house for painting. There are also windows that require reglazing, as well as various forms of garden work that need to be done.
Please dress in clothing you don't mind getting dirty. No skills necessary, just a willingness to learn and do some good old-fashioned labor.
If you can stay for the entire day, we are expected to finish by 4pm. Lunch will be provided, but not breakfast.
