Want to have fun, teach English, and build community? You can be a volunteer English teacher and make a real impact on the lives of immigrants.

I am starting a new English as a Second Language (ESL) program in Boise and Nampa. It will serve a huge need for English teachers and cultural exchange in our community.

If you are fun and appreciate other cultures, you would be a great volunteer. No previous teaching experience required. We provide a 6-hour training and all materials for volunteers.

Volunteers can either teach group classes at a number of public facilities around Boise and Nampa or become one-on-one tutors in student homes. Volunteers can be matched with students for home classes at any times that work for the volunteer and student.

Did I tell you the best part of this program? We will also offer intercultural events, such as sports activities and music and dancing parties. These activities expand the opportunity for volunteers and students to practice their language skills and develop friendships.

My name is Christina McAlpin. If you are interested in volunteering, please email me at: christinamcalpin@yahoo.com.

Volunteers will be THE force that gets this program off the ground. Be one of the first people who help makes this happen in our community!

What members are saying

Join this Meetup if you can commit to volunteering to teach English to someone that may know little to none for two hours a week over a minimum three month period.

“I came to the State 40 years ago from Holland and even though I spoke some English, I think I could have benefitted a lot from ESL if it had been avaiable. I have some spare time and volunteer at some projects. I look forward to meet this Group.”

“Thanks Christina, for keeping me on your email list. As previously mentioned, two of us are in the process of starting an after school reading program at the Garden City Boys & Girls Club. Looks like we'll kick it off the week of August 31st. At this point I have nothing to offer your group, but would like to stay in touch with the possibility that we might share best practices'? What got you interested in starting your reading program? Roy Montague 938-0256”
