29th Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner for the Homeless and Hungry

The Sharing Community Needs Your Help. We will host our 29th Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner for the Homeless and Hungry at One Hudson Street in Yonkers on Thursday, November 22. We Hope that you will support this worthwhile event.

Each Thanksgiving we provide hundreds of people with a traditional meal… and the hope that comes from knowing that people in your community care about you. Feeding a festive meal to hundreds of people is an expensive proposition. Last year we fed more than 300 people. Hunger continues to be a major issue for many people in Yonkers. To volunteer, please contact Nadine Burns-Lyons at [masked] or (914)[masked] ext.222.

Hey, sorry for the miscommunication - it's always a bit of a scramble during Thanksgiving to identify where volunteers are needed. I based the information on this project on an email that I received a few months back but it seems at some point messages got crossed. Nonetheless, the issue over the timing was my fault and for that I apologize. We started this meetup group to help share information about community needs and to help bring in more of a social component to volunteerism. Although the system is set up as a registration site, most of the projects we host are not managed by us but directly by the respective nonprofit. Going forwards I will be more careful on monitoring the registrations on this site but please make sure you contact the listed volunteer coordinator for the project if you are interested in participating. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me at [masked] or[masked]

Sounds like a tragic organizing mishap that could have triggered a nuclear war. Take it easy, folks, the organizers have done some serious selfless service all along. You can cut them some slack on this one.

The event NEVER took place at the time we were asked to come (5 PM). The facility informed me that the event was over at 3 PM

There was an info mishap. Several people who signed up through the Volunteer Center never made it onto the list of volunteers maintained by the people in Yonkers who actually ran this event. It appears that the emails we got confirming our registration may have been automated and were inaccurate. PErhaps the website organizers can explain the discrepancy

I just contacted the phone number above and spoke with Nadine who said the event is over. She said it started at noon until 3pm and she didn't know anything about the Meetup website saying it's from 5pm - 9pm.

Did anyone else run into this or was there another place showing the right time that I missed?

Thank you for your quick response, Lynn. I'm so disappointed I couldn't help out tonight. The Meetup site seemed so legitimate, even had a ticket to print, oh well...lesson learned.

Perhaps the co-organizers, Zachery or Alisa could shed some light on what happen here with this event?

I volunteered last Christmas for the Sharing Community. It was a heart warming experience. Thank you for offering your time for those less fortunate. Enjoy your holiday!!!
