We were thrilled to locate a dive location this past Sunday that has a bonanza of corals that would be ideal to transplant to the Biorock reef site. We will be returning to this abundant site to collect coral fragments and then travel to the Biorock site for transplantation. We are approved by the State of Florida to transplant 100 corals of opportunity, 12 species in all. We are very excited about this phase of the project! Ed, a dedicated Vone Research volunteer who has devoted hundreds of hours to the success of the Biorock project, located the first coral fragment (affectionately referred to as E1) that was permanently attached on the north structure on January 20th. Lureen, our Expert Fish Surveyor, located the second coral fragment (L2) that was attached on February 3rd. Please join us if you would like to help build the coral community in LBTS. Although we can’t put your name on the coral transplant itself, your contribution to the reef site with be noted in the official reports to the City and State and will be enjoyed by all the divers who visit the location. You can make a positive difference in the ocean.
Please plan on meeting at 6:30 AM and returning to the dock around 3:00 PM or so.
