“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” is a new film adaptation (by Swedish director Tomas Alfredson) of the best-selling 1974 John le Carré spy novel of the same name.
Set in London in the early 1970s, the film follows the hunt for a Soviet double agent at the top of the British secret service. It stars Gary Oldman in the lead role as George Smiley, and co-stars Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, John Hurt, Toby Jones, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch and Ciarán Hinds.
We’ll be holding a group discussion, as usual, immediately after the film.

RogerEvent HostOrganizer"Tinker Tailor" has the look and feel of a classic Cold War espionage film, which I think is a tribute to the filmmakers’ skill in adapting this early ‘70s story into a 2011 movie (that looks like it was made in the '70s). I’m a fan of this kind of stuff – cloak and dagger, whispers and hushed silence – and think the film will appeal to those who enjoy the genre. Our discussion afterwards really enhanced my understanding and enjoyment of the movie and was definitely a highlight for me. Thanks everyone! -
berniesI did snooze because I found the movie slow. However, the cinematography
is brilliant and the details in production design impressive. Oldman with subtle dialog and 'looking like he’s doing nothing at all' leaves a lasting impression. Thanks Roger for hosting.
