Now that summer is here in full swing, let’s enjoy some time on the patio...and some TIFF in the Park!
“His Girl Friday” is a Howard Hawks directed comedy starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell that’s regarded as one of the all time classics.
For this event, we’ll be gathering for a pre-movie discussion prior to heading over as a group to watch a free screening of the film in the park across the street.
More about "His Girl Friday"
Walter Burns (Cary Grant) is a hard-boiled newspaper editor who learns that his ex-wife (and former star reporter), Hildegard "Hildy" Johnson (Rosalind Russell), is about to marry a dull insurance man (Ralph Bellamy) and settle down to a quiet life in Albany, New York.
Walter still has feelings for Hildy and feigns happiness about her impending marriage while trying, at the same time, to do everything he can to keep her from leaving -- often with comical results.
Based on the popular play, The Front Page, Howard Hawks changed the character of “Hildy” from a man to a woman for the film – creating whole new meaning to much of the original dialog from the play, which was left mostly unchanged for the film.
