Argo is a 2012 American thriller directed by Ben Affleck. Based on true events, Argo chronicles the life-or-death covert operation which unfolded behind the scenes during the Iran hostage crisis -- the truth about which was unknown to the public for decades.

It all begins on November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, when militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran and take 52 Americans hostage. In the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of Canadian ambassador Ken Taylor.

Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are discovered and likely killed, a CIA "exfiltration" specialist named Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) comes up with a risky plan to get them safely out of the country....

We'll be holding a group discussion, as usual, immediately after the film.

Great film! I was a bit surprised at how gripping and suspenseful I found it (given that it's based on real events so everyone already knows how it ends). Really enjoyed our discussion with the group afterwards as well. Thanks all.

It's a terrific movie made more dramatic because it is based on real events. There was considerable twisting and realigning of those events to make a Hollywood movie, but the overall production was suspenseful, very funny and well-cast and well-acted. I loved it!
