Delighting in how these mountains keep unfolding and revealing their magic. Learning their subtleties, their hidden rare ecosystems and the variety of hiking/walking trails. Discovering the water in between. Having lived by the ocean my entire life, I am always seeking moving water.
A long-time environmentalist, working with Massachusetts Audubon and now the National Park Service in Flat Rock, I have been involved for decades with defending the land from developmental take-overs of all kinds (from Big Mountain to Big Wind).
Just the right group size (at least on this hike), and the pace was perfect for me. The leader was concerned with the group's well being and keeping us to schedule. She was informed about the hike site and showed us she was a good earth steward by gently admonishing off-trail hikers, as a rep of the Sierra Club, that it was a no no. Well done, Jane.
