Open Mic 101

Have you always wanted to play an open mic but need to work through the jitters? Do you need to practice singing with a microphone? Do you have some new material to try out? Do you just want to come listen and lend moral support? Monday evening from 6-8:00 at the Skinny Beats Drum Shop we'll have a mini open mic for WNC Amateur Musician members and guests. Come with a couple of songs and play in front of a small friendly group of meetup friends. There will be a PA system probably best suited for acoustic but as long as we're not too loud we can probably accommodate about any style. Space for performers will need to be limited to about 10 people so everyone gets the chance to play. ****If you are coming please indicate whether it's just to watch or if you intend to play****. Duets or other mixing and matching are welcome and encouraged but it will help if we can work out most of this ahead of time so we allow everyone the chance to play Most of the particulars will depend on the response we get but we'd like to have this be a regular event although the format might change from time to time (workshops, themed jams etc. thrown in here and there). Hope to see you there!!

I'm not sure I have much to add...it was a most enjoyable and friendly situation, and those who wished were able to play in front of a mic and a supportive crowd. For those who didn't attend, I highly recommend that you do! It appears that this will be a regularly scheduled event, so .... right on!

I had a great time. The store makes for a very friendly venue and Linda is a terrific hostess.

    hi everyone!
I will be setting up the space for this event at 5:30--if you have your own mic with cable, please bring it--otherwise I will have 3 good mics w/ stands ---we have a decent size sound system so leave larger amps at home--our space is good for recording live, so if you have a portable recording device-bring it. If you have supportive friends, bring them, too!
See you all on Monday the 20th.

    Hey Cath,

Anything and everything is welcome!! It's a good place to try out originals but some of us (like me) might not have them or maybe they're not ready for public display. I wanted this to get over the nerves and get used to a microphone. It should be a very friendly atmosphere so hopefully we'll see you there.

Hello. Is this for original music only, or can we do covers? I'm not sure if I can make this one, but I am definitely interested in getting over the gitters of performing in public. :)
