A beautiful drive through the Santa Fe area Sangre de Cristo Mountains with stops along the way for photography and a short hike along a mountain stream through the aspens, followed by a second hike up the Aspen Vista Trail with a sea of fall foliage and breathtaking views in Hyde Memorial State Park.
I will be going with those that wish to hike the Aspen Vista Trail for a mile or two up and back down. If you are not up to it don't worry! You will have plenty to keep you and your camera busy walking around the trailhead overlook areas while we hike. You could always join us part-way up the trail (we will stop for photo ops often) and then head back to the parking lot as this is a very wide, well-marked, well-used trail where you will not get lost going back. This trail is a steady, gradual climb uphill, but is very easy footing like hiking on a dirt road and the views are well worth a little effort.
Hiking boots, water, trail snacks, hat, sunscreen, and a sweat shirt/light jacket. Don't forget $$ for your share of the gasoline. It is about 1 hour, 15 minutes drive to Hyde Memorial State Park each way... Not including our stops along the way of course!
