WordPress is a wonderful system, but if you're new to the scene, there's a lot of ground to cover. PodCamp Toronto 2013 took us on a small detour last month, but we're getting back on track with the roadmap in March.
This session will focus on the highest-rated topics from January's roadmapping survey: Explaining WordPress Jargon & Terminology; Choosing a Host (Managed vs. Shared vs. Dedicated); Essential Plugins; and Site Architecture (Mapping Pages & Posts). The structure of meetup will be a mix of group discussion and talking points.
We'll be in Room 200 at the Northern District library. Take the elevators at the front entrance to the 2nd floor, and follow the signs. Setup begins at 2:00pm, while opening remarks start promptly at 2:30pm.
Thank you to our platinum supporter WooThemes for helping cover our Meetup costs. The Woo crew are one of the most well respected commercial theme & plugin vendors for WordPress. We can't thank them enough for their support of our group!
Wow, this would have been a great class for me to be at. I feel like a dough dough bird when it comes to Wordpress :)

I just recently started using Word Press, and am fairly computer literate, but haven't programmed in weeks. Is there are support number I can call to figure out why my WordPress site refuses to Publish a post I made. This of course is my first one :) Thanks!

Great dynamic although a bit too loud, I agree. Very helpful, got the answers I was looking for. Thank you! Looking forward to the next one.

This was my first meetup and I found the format quite effective. I met some nice people and hopefully helped clarify concepts and shared some new ideas. Many questions were not specifically about Wordpress but the broader field of the web, and this is Ok. I found many new to Wordpress not really able to follow during the discussion period, even though this was to be a basics session. Smaller and more numerous groups might be better. Andy's suggestion to cruise around was a good one, so I did. At times I found it was loud and could not hear others in the discussion. Overall it was great. I'll try to get to the next meetup

Andy, Brent, Al and others SMEs and staff that helped organize this even and share their knowledge.....Amazing event. I loved how we got into different groups to ask qt. Next step, to actually help us on our issue on the labtop, to move a little further...from the step we are stuck at.
If there is a seperate panel of SME and we can take turns to go to them, whist the others are discussing in seperate groups as last Sat would be great!.
Thank you Andy, amazing job!

Very practical information. Great format of mixing the int/seniors with the newbies. A suggestion for next time is to have the int/seniors move around after 15 minutes to share their knowlegde with different newbie groups

Great setup. Need to get the groups sorted a little better. Maybe setting one area to one topic. ;)

Good; a little chaotic, but good. Met a lot of enthusiastic people; got even more motivated to get going on my WP web site.

You know what they say about "good intentions" ... unfortunately as much as I would like to drop by to say "Hi" to everyone, I'm just feeling a bit selfish about sharing this cold with everyone (*grin*)

I was wondering if you are going to be touching on "mobile optimization". Is this something that one can do on its own, or do you need the expertise of a professional to do it? Thanks.
March 21
Will there be opportunity for people to ask for help with setting up their wordpress site? If I bring my laptop, is there someone on hand after the session to offer some basic help?
March 19
sorry don't think I'll make it this month... coming down with a cold. Check out our WordPress workshops and lessons at LearnWP.ca

There's a pretty decent course on Wordpress offered for free on Udemy. The creator gave Reddit coupons, worth checking out as it's well organized and taught.
