Toronto WordPress March Meetup

For the next meeting, March 12th, the "theme" will be BuddyPress!

I know we initially had a couple of ideas for the March meeting but, for a couple of reasons, they will have to be put off a month or two.

BuddyPress is a package of plugins, and is claimed to be "Social networking in a box."  There are pros and cons, but it effectively allows you to create your own niche social network for a company, school or team, built on a standard installation of WordPress.

I have a live installation of BuddyPress set up, so we can walk through the back end and take a look at the installation, setup and features.

I also have a request:

Please! - if anyone is using BuddyPress in a production site, or is in the midst of creating one, please let me know and, if you're willing, we can discuss your project, why you chose BuddyPress, what issues you faced, etc.

Before March 12th, visit BuddyPress.org to learn more about what BuddyPress does, visit testbp.org to try a working version of BuddyPress, and come to the meeting armed with questions, likes, dislikes, ideas!

See you on the 12th!

I thought this meetup was excellent. Really enjoyed Min Min's buddypress presentation. It was good to see a real-life successful implementation from the back-end.

Great Meetup! Lots of discussion about BuddyPress. Thanks, especially, to Min Min for showing us her active BuddyPress install at www.loveislonely.com, including the back end and extra plugins she is using. Also, great discussion with the folks who wandered over to the pub after!

As usual the turnout was good, the topic was relevant and the conversation was interesting.

I had known exactly nothing about BuddyPress going into the meeting. To be honest, the nuts and bolts are still beyond me, but the possibilities were well explained and exciting.

Finally sorted out my plans for the 12th, unfortunately it also means I will not be able to attend the Meetup. Have a Great Time everyone, and I'll see you in April!
