Contrib 2 Core 1.0 (Developers/Advanced)

On June 10th from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, join us at Ryerson University’s DMZ (at Dundas Square, downtown Toronto) to learn about unit testing and how to contribute unit tests to Trac tickets and core patches.

WordPress Developers: It’s Time to Give Back!

As you know WordPress is open source software, and as such, its very success depends on the contribution of volunteer members of the development community to continue to evolve and grow.

There are hundreds if not thousands of tickets on Trac, the official WordPress bug tracking tool, that are awaiting attention and patches.

Are you ready to join us for a special WordPress meetup devoted to contributing back and helping the WordPress Core Development effort?

Let’s put the great developer talent pool in Toronto to good use to knock this number down.

Open to Developers of All Skill Levels

Whether you’re a developer who has never contributed to core, or a seasoned contributor, make a point of joining us.

We’ll help you find a ticket that’s appropriate to your level, and we’ll walk you through the process of submitting a patch.

This is a great opportunity to ease into open source contribution and start giving back to the community that has given you so much.

I messaged Brent a while ago. I need help adding paypal to my wp site and I'd gladly pay for basic training. Please send me a message if you can help me with my issues. Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who attended. I am hoping to get your input for Version 2.0 (second Tuesday of July).

Please visit and leave your thoughts on the format I have proposed there.

Nice meeting everyone last night. Thought I'd share an article I used to set up unit testing for our own plugins

Until last night I thought the project this tutorial tells you to use was a unit-testing specific version of WordPress but I learned last night I was just downloading the whole WordPress bundle, tests included.

Boy, I totally forgot to mention one important thing: BRING YOUR OWN LAPTOP! This is a hands-on session, so bring the laptop you use to program already. Ideally you should have your local development server installed and configured, have a good IDE and have some VCS installed (Git or SVN).

If you don't know what the above means, maybe this session is not a good fit for you?

If you have some time today, read this:

    See you tonight!

Enjoy all - unfortunately I can't do June 10 but hope to catch up with you for the next one.

Looking forward to kicking off Contrib2Core in Toronto! Spaces are very limited, so if you're interested, sign up now. If there's enough interest, we'll find a bigger venue for the next one.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
