Las Trampas, even hillier glorious hills. 8 miles

This hike will explore the north western section of Las Trampas park. Beautiful views and sunny wide trails for the most part.  We'll pass Las Trampas, Vail, and Eagle Peaks so yes, there is some elevation gain mostly right in the beginning. I didn't see many cows last time and sometimes there are a few horse riders. Creeks and a cow pond along the way. we will stop for a quick "lunch".

Note: if you click on the map it will give you the address for the staging area which says Moraga and the park headquarters location says San Ramon, (listed above). The staging area is a little further down Bollinger Road past the park headquarters. Disregard the discrepancy and follow the map which is correct to the staging area at the end of Bollinger Canyon road. Additional parking is available at a lot on the right before the staging area. Outhouses and water fountain in the lot, no fees.

DIRECTIONS:
From I-580 in Castro Valley, take Crow Canyon Road
north to Bollinger Canyon Road. Turn left and follow
Bollinger Canyon Road into the park.

From I-680 in
San Ramon, take Crow Canyon Road west to Bollinger
Canyon Road. Turn right and follow Bollinger Canyon
Road into the park.

Staging area is about 4.4 miles up Bollinger Canyon Road on the left past the park headquarters address above. The Google map is correct.

A little longer than 8 miles, maybe, but a good way to spend the day!

You guys are reading too much into the hike title. It was more of an inside joke between me and elaine and some others who have loathed the hilly parts of our hikes. Elaine named one of her hikes "glorious hills" and I later asked if she would go to Las Trampas but she said it was maybe too hilly compared to her "Glorious Hills hike" hence my rub was to name this hike "hillier Glorious Hills". My personal feeling is that it is no hillier than some of our more frequent hikes. As happens everywhere in the developed world, the most suitable land for farms, buildings and malls gets developed first, leaving behind the less suitable places that are hilly, rocky and swampy. Often the land which is donated for preservation is donated because it was not considered very useful but we at Wag N' Trails and especially our dogs know different.

Maribel~ I also consider myself a novice and I have been able to get through just about anything so far (though did turn around once.....) It is a generous and forgiving group.

I estimate ~600' elevation gain, mostly gradual. I recall one enormous step going up the peak that seemed 2' high and killed me! Am I right, Ben? He'll probably chicken out this time.
