Sundays in September with Migrating Swifts
Each Sunday September 2, 9, 16, 23, 30,
6pm – 8pm ( a tad longer in early September, as the days are longer)
Museum Parking-Corner of Jones and Wilmington, Downtown Raleigh
Every Sunday in September Time: 6-8:00 pm
Where: Meet at Museum Parking, corner of Jones and Wilmington Street- we will carpool (or walk) to site in downtown Raleigh.
What: Please join Wake Audubon and the NC Museum of Natural Sciences as we visit a downtown roost of migrating chimney swifts. We can expect to view thousands of swifts enter a chimney at sunset to roost for the night. The location may vary each Sunday, as the swifts are the ones who decide where they will roost for the night.
Who can come: Everyone is welcome, no limits on numbers or ages.
What to Bring: Binoculars. Dress for the weather. A folding chair might be useful. If the swifts are directly over us - well, expect a bit of guano (no fancy clothes.) You might want a flashlight for the trip back to your car. This is rain or shine (the swifts have to roost!)
Leaders: John Connors < john.connors(at)ncdenr.gov> or John Gerwin john.gerwin(at)ncdenr.gov
Suggestion: after the swifts have gone to sleep - go out to dinner in downtown Raleigh!
