A Walk in the Park...Chestnut Ridge

Part of the Be Active program hosted by Erie County Department of Health & Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo. Meet at the Casino. The group meets at 9:00 but doesn't start walking until 9:45. Look for the "Be Active" signs at the park entrance. All of the Be Active Spring Schedule walks are posted on the Walking for Fun and Fitness Meetup group.

The Erie County Dept. of Health & Wellness:

"The free “Be Active” Erie County walks offer a shorter (30 min. – 1.5 mile) and a longer (45 min. – 2.5 mile) moderate paced family walks. For safety purposes, they are on the park roads or paved trails. Registration (not required) and health/wellness info, including BP checks, start at 9 AM. Both walks leave at 9:45. Healthy refreshments (usually water and occasionally apples) are offered after the walks. The walk leaders are staff from the Wellness Institute and EC DOH. Often the walkers are accompanied by mounted ER Sheriffs which adds fun and safety.

The Parks Department is working to provide additional signage and more self-guided “adventure” trails of various difficulty levels in all the parks, for individuals who like to strike out on their own."

    I won't be attending this walk due to a doctor's appt. this morning to check out some mulch dust that got in my eye yesterday. Look for Phil Haberstro, who's leading the walk. Have fun!!

    From my experience, I find that the group breaks up into about smaller four groups, each walking at the pace they feel most comfortable. Many continue on to get their desired mileage in. There is no mandated speed or distance.

    I think this is what I did last year. If you are looking for a brisk walk, this isn't it. If you are looking to go through paths in the woods, change your expectations or you will be disappointed. A few if us broke off and went on our own last year.
