A Walk in the Park....Como Park

  • Como Park

2220 Como Park Blvd, Lancaster, NY (map)

    42.888838 -78.664905

  • Meet at the Casino
  • Part of the Be Active program hosted by Erie County Department of Health & Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo. Meet at Lancaster Place (indicated by a red rectangle on the map below.) The group meets at 9:00 but doesn't start walking until 9:30.  Look for the hot pink "Be Active" signs at the park entrance. Here's a map of the park:

The Erie County Dept. of Health & Wellness:

"The free “Be Active” Erie County walks offer a shorter (30 min. – 1.5 mile) and a longer (45 min. – 2.5 mile) moderate paced family walks. For safety purposes, they are on the park roads or paved trails. Registration (not required) and health/wellness info, including BP checks, start at 9 AM. Both walks leave at 9:45. Healthy refreshments (usually water and occasionally apples) are offered after the walks. The walk leaders are staff from the Wellness Institute and EC DOH. Often the walkers are accompanied by mounted ER Sheriffs which adds fun and safety.

The Parks Department is working to provide additional signage and more self-guided “adventure” trails of various difficulty levels in all the parks, for individuals who like to strike out on their own."

thanks for the cancellation - it's not too bad in the city - and moderate rain is not a problem for me, but why be miserably wet! ..Just checked before I left.

Looks like the rain is going to continue, so I'll have to cancel this meetup. I know Phil continues to walk in drizzle and light rain, but it's raining pretty hard here in Lancaster. See you all at the next meetup.

Eric and I won't be able to make it tomorrow at the Como Park meetup. Look for Phil, the Erie County Dept of Health & Wellness walk leader.

Next weekend is the grand finale with NFBC (cycling club) and they're having a hike and bike out at Griffis Park on the 18th. Bad weather has canceled this the past 3 years so I'm crossing my fingers. Once Nov. arrives I'm all yours! :o)
