Distance: 7 miles, Circular
Difficulty: Easy, no hills!
Walk Speed: Leisurely/Moderate (not a march, but not a very slow stroll either. Will walk at about 2.5 miles an hour). Walk will take about 3 hours.
This is a beautiful woodland walk and is unique in that it is almost mud-free! (I recce'd the walk after all the heavy rain recently and there is one very short stretch that might be a bit muddy). The route takes in the Alice Holt Forest and the pretty village of Rowledge which, many years ago, was a "rowdy and lawless place".
There are some lovely views over Hampshire along the way.
We will make a drinks and toilet stop en route, for about 30 minutes or so, at a very nice village pub.
We will be joined on this walk by members of another meetup group. Please see details here: http://www.meetup.com/The-Farnborough-Friends-Meetup-Group/events/161408892/
Important - please disregard map above, as this is automatically generated by meetup when you type a road name in.
Meet place details: We will meet in the car park at Gravel Hill Road, Farnham. This road is accessed from the A31. (Do NOT take the road from Farnham to the Alice Holt Forest or Birdworld, as this is the wrong road!). If coming from the Farnham direction, follow the A31 beyond Farnham towards Alton and when you see the Bull Pub on your right, you need to take the small road on your left immediately afterwards. This road does not have a road name at the start of it. The road is signposted Alice Holt Forestry Research Centre. This is a twisty road, which you need to follow for just under a mile, climbing uphill, entering the forest and going over a railway bridge. The car park is on your right, 1/4 mile after the railway bridge. Please note the car park is not signposted, so you need to look out for it! Please park tightly against your fellow walkers' cars, as the car park is a fair size, but may become full with our group. If the spaces at the end are full, you can park anywhere along the slip road into the car park and there will be plenty of space for everybody.
Meetup sub of £2 applies please.
I will be taking my dog - other friendly dogs welcome with their owners, but no Rottweilers, Alsatians, Bull Mastiffs, Akita's, or similar please.
