8 Mile Hike to Scenic Overlook at Greenbelt Corridor Park
We will walk to the scenic overlook and have a picnic lunch (bring your own). Round trip is 8 miles. This hike will take around 3 hours, so make sure to bring a knapsack with water and lunch. It should be beautiful in the spring.
IMPORTANT: There is a $7.00 entry fee (honor system) to the greenbelt unless you have a Texas State Park annual pass. Please make sure you pay and put the receipt in your windshield. There is a very hefty fine if they ticket your vehicle for non-payment and they seem to really enforce it on Sundays.
There is no drinking water along the trail. There are toilets at the entrance to the park.
I will be holding a sign that says Denton Walking & Friends. We will meet at the trail head near the big map of the park at 10:45 am and we will start walking at 11:00 am.
It is a very easy wide flat gravel path through the woods. We will walk 4 miles to the lookout. A small portion of this hike will be uphill but it is not difficult. At the lookout we will relax, eat lunch, enjoy the scenery and then then hike back. I recommend bringing a small knapsack with lunch, water and maybe a towel or other small ground cover to sit on. Also, binoculars, camera, etc. would be good to bring.
Pat's Tips: 2 pairs of socks (one thin liner and another pair) will cut down on friction and reduce your chances of getting blisters on a long hike. Raisins are an easy to carry energy snack. As the weather gets warmer you may need extra water. Stretch after the hike.
If you have any questions, please post them in the comments and I will do my best to answer them.
The Greenbelt is an awesome place to hike. Hope to see you all soon!
