C&O Canal Towpath - Great Falls Area hike

C&O Canal Towpath - Great Falls Area
Let's take a hike along the scenic Potomac at the Great Falls Park, MD. The total distance of the hike will be about 6 miles; the trail is a hard-pack natural surface. This walk offers excellent views of the Potomac River and Great Falls as well as some history of the C & O Canal. We'll meet at the parking lot across from Old Angler's Inn (10801 MacArthur Blvd Potomac, MD 20854) and head north up to the Great Falls Visitors Center. There are several parking areas along the dirt road. We can meet at the end of the parking area near the bridge near the trail.

I'd like to go, do you think it will be muddy? I'm just wondering if I should wear hiking boots or walking shoes.

I was on the towpath today at Pennyfield. Mud and ice. Definitely hiking boots.
