The Magnificant Waterways of Weybridge to Staines (8 miles)

Today a walk and picnic that take in parts of the National Trust's Wey Navigation before  crossing over from Weybridge to Shepperton by ferry and following the course of the Thames through Chertsey and Laleham. This is a most scenic route, an absolute feast for the eyes.. Parking is free during the weekend at Weybridge Station but do check the signs! There is a short roadside walk to the beginning of the waterways but you will find it is worth it!  The path on the Wey leads past some of the more hidden hideaways and gems of Weybridge crossing the occasional weir and lock. At the juncture where the Wey meets the Thames we will take the small river ferry that runs every quarter of an hour, they will make multiple crossings for large groups. The ferry charge is around £2.00   Shortly after we have reached the Shepperton bank we will stop for our picnic, if the weather is poor we could instead take refuge at the riverside Thames Court Pub  in Shepperton.  After lunch we continue our expedition down the Thames, a journey lasting  a further 2 hours taking in some most splendid sights.  We can expect to arrive in Staines around 4pm.

Return to Weybridge by train from Staines. The service runs hourly, takes 36 minutes and costs £4.80 single fare (change at "Byfleet and New Haw" station, opposite platform).  Should be back in Weybridge around 5:15pm.

WISy event meetup sub of £2.00 applies per person.

You will need;

1. A picnic including water for an 8 mile walk

2. Suitable walking boots and clothing for the weather

3. WISy Sub, Ferry and Train Fare total approx £8.80

4. To plan to arrive promptly for 11:15

Note that if stream conditions are poor the ferry will not operate, the walk will then instead continue onto Hampton Court instead which makes for an 0.5 mile longer walk.  Hampton Court is similarly connected by Rail back to Weybridge.

If the weather is extremely poor the walk will be postponed and rescheduled.  Registered attendees will be advised by email.
