Epsom Downs & Walton on the Hill 7.5 miles

Meeting at the view point car park on Epsom Downs we start with a panoramic view of central London .

We go under the racecourse and pass the new Duchess Stand ( opened by Camilla ) and the Queens Stand where the rich and famous watch the historic Derby race ( already being prepared for ) .

Then 'we're off' across the Downs to the Derby start and Langley Vale and more views . We take a long steady uphill to Walton on the Hill and have a pub lunch at the Chequers Inn .

In the afternoon we will walk through the pretty village of Walton on the Hill with it's church and pond and pass the RAT over to Walton Downs where we get a widescreen view of the racecourse and stop to look at some radio controlled planes .

There are various options if we want them at the end including a tea hut , ice cream van ( weather permitting ) or we could go for tea / drinks in the Derby Arms to finish off the day .

£2 in the pot for meetup costs please .

Thank you Gavin for leading this wonderful walk. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute and would love to do it again some time, maybe with an extra mile or two?

    Hi Sarah & Lily
Dogs are fine , but best check with the pub if they let them in . The car park is free . We will be leaving , hopefully , on time as I don't want to keep the group waiting . My number is[masked] .
Yes , it's a circular walk back to the carpark ( I wouldn't leave you in the middle of nowhere ! ) . GAVIN

Hi Gavin, do you know if there is free parking or if there is a cost? And also, will the walk be ending back in the car park where it starts?? I plan to drive there from West London. Thanks so much! :)

Gavin, would it be OK if I bring a dog? If so, do you know if they are allowed in the pub? Sarah
