Come along for a full-day adventure of hikes, historic tours and beach time!
We'll depart from my house in Sunnyvale at 9:00 and head for Jack's Peak County Park in Monterey
to hike about 4 miles along the Pine Trail, to the restrooms at the East Picnic Area, on the Madrone Trail to the point whose name is illegible on the online map.
Then on to Pacific Grove for a tour of the oldest continuously-operating lighthouse on the West Coast, Point Pinos.Another nice Lighthouse link is this.
We'll have a picnic either at Jack's Peak or near the lighthouse, and may walk along the ocean at Pacific Grove.
We'll return home along Highway 1 to simply gorgeous and ever-entertaining Greyhound Rock Beach.
On HWY1 north of Scott Creek [near Davenport], it has a paved pedestrian access to beach, picnic tables, a large parking lot, memorial benches and a disabled accessible view platform. You can get a good uphill/downhill workout on the paved trail, try your balancing skills to reach and scale Greyhound Rock if the tide is out, and walk along a generally uncrowded beach.
We will probably not return to Sunnyvale until 9:00 or 9:30. Since it is difficult to predict exactly when we will arrive at each venue, it works best for us to carpool, although I can be flexible about an additional pick-up point or you could meet us at Jack's Peak knowing that our arrival time can't be fixed precisely.
Bring clothing for varying temperatures, plenty of food and drinks for the day. bug repellent, CDs or an Ipod to share, a smile, and be ready to flex with the day's adventures.
