Announcing a new Meetup for Walking thru the Valley of Heart's Delight & Hiking Around!

What: Dragon Boat Festival; Walking in San Francisco and on Treasure Island

When: September 26,[masked]:30 AM

Kathleen's house
1234 Not for public notice drive
[Fair Oaks at Weddell]
Sunnyvale, CA 94089

Click here to check out the Dragon Boat Festival on Treasure Island.

Let's carpool up to San Francisco to the $8 a day parking lots near the Museum of Modern Art, walk over to 4th and Mission to catch the free shuttle from the Marriott to Treasure Island. Watch world-class dragon boat competition with over 100 teams, and enjoy cultural performers and entertainment. Food and gifts available for purchase. Wouldn't hurt to bring a picnic lunch and drinks in case we decide to stop for lunch while walking.

We will try to walk the 3.3-mile route around the island as described in Weekly Walker, recognizing that festival activities might not make this feasible. Click here to see that and read something about the history of Treasure Island.

At 4:00 we'll head for the shuttle line to get back to SF and drive home. If we haven't had enough exercise yet, we can take the shuttle to Chinatown/Washington Square and walk back about a mile to the car from there. Could stop for dinner in Chinatown if we feel like it.

There is room for 7 people in my car [assuming that three of the seven are slimmer than I am]. Beyond that, we'll need another driver.

If you do sign up for this, please be very aware that a last-minute cancellation may keep someone else from participating, and/or affects those budgeting to share the gas costs with a good-sized number of people. There is enough money in the Meetup funds from our sponsor, Columbia Sportswear [Thanks, Columbia!], to cover parking costs for two cars at $8 apiece, so we'll only charge for gas.

If you want to meet in San Francisco, expect us to be at the SF Marriott at 4th and Mission around 10:00. You can call or text for updated info that morning.
