February Book Club: The Cuckoo's Calling

For our mystery book, The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling) won by quite the landslide. The other three options all tied for second place, but only had half the amount of votes.

We'll meet at Slider's in Wallingford, where I've reserved a private room for us. There will be salad, chicken wings, fried mozzarella, and french fries for everyone to share, and we can order our own drinks. If there are a lot of RSVPs, we'll add one more food option. I think it'll be great to meet at a restaurant where we can have our own room and actually hear each other!

The cost will come to  $10 (including tip) per person for food. Please bring $10 cash to this event. You will be able to purchase additional food if you'd like, but the $10 per person is mandatory.

Order your book or download the e-version on your Kindle and get reading! Let's see who can solve this mystery first...

BOOK SWAP: A few members have discussed the idea of a book swap, which could be a lot of fun! If you'd like to participate, please bring a book or two to Slider's with you. We'll have a table designated for the swap - put your books on the table and browse what other members have brought. This is a great way to "recycle" books you've already read while having the opportunity to choose a new book. If you are able to do so, please put a Post-it on the cover of your book with your name and a sentence explaining why you liked the book or why you think someone else might enjoy it.

Thanks for a great meeting and accommodating those of us who didn't finish the book and didn't want the ending ruined!

Would anyone like to host the next book club gathering? Or know of a place where we can meet?

Feel better! I hope you have a wolverine to "give you a hand" until you get over the cold (see what I did there? heh heh heh)

My car has decided that working is so yesterday. I am hopeful that the mechanic can fix it in time for the discussion tomorrow, but there's no guarantee.

Unfortunately, AAA is so backed up that (even though I put the call in at 8 am yesterday) they still have no idea when they'll be able to tow my car. Looks like I'm out of luck.

Please remember $10 cash to cover the snackage for tomorrow! There will also be a cash bar and the opportunity to order more food if we want to do so. And bring a book for the swap if you'd like!

I find this book is a lot better with a better understanding of British culture. Some BBC America marathons should help.

One last thing - there's no wait list because we have a really big room reserved, but please update your RSVP beforehand if you know you aren't going to be able to make it. I want to be sure to order enough food, but also to not overorder and have people stuck paying for unneeded food.

As I'm reading this, I'm coming to realize that UK slang night as well be a foreign language.
