March Book Club: The Fault in Our Stars

  • March 20, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Another big winner in our book survey this month! With more than triple the votes of any other option (32 votes were cast total), we will be reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green for March's book club gathering.

Shaina has offered to host the meeting in her new home (how exciting!), which is in Northford. We will meet at 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 20th. The address and parking information will be emailed right before the event to members who RSVP. As always, please bring a beverage or appetizery item to share with the group if you are able to do so.

The movie is being released on June 6 in the United States, and will star Shailene Woodley, who is also playing Tris in the upcoming movie version of Divergent.

Hope to see you there! If any of you show up with nails painted like this, I will bake you a cake. Three-tiered for toenails. But if you have blue smudges all over your fingers or toes, the deal is off.

PS - I know a lot of us have already read The Fault in Our Stars. For those who would like to have another book to read in the meantime, let's go with This Is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Trooper. It's supposed to be incredibly hilarious and is being made into a movie with Jason Bateman and Tina Fey! (No pressure to read this book - just a suggestion for those looking for something new to read and possibly discuss. The Fault in Our Stars is a very quick read.)

I'm not going to be able to make tonight after all...been feeling under the weather today, so tonight's going to be a sleep night for me unfortunately. :( I'm sorry I won't be able to discuss the book with you all! Love it so much...

I am so sad to say that I'm not going to be able to come tonight. I'm day 2 of a horrible headache and was really hoping it would pass, but it's not budging!! I have read this book twice and have some personal connection to it...wishing I could be there to share. I'm sorry! Have a glass of vino for me!!

Ok, I've resigned... There's really no way I can make this book club meeting... I tried to hang in there, but it's no longer feasible. :(

What genre should we read next month? Some of us were talking about American classics (nothing too long or intense). Thoughts?

    March 16

    • Carolyn

There would probably be a lot of overlap between the two, but how about banned books?

      3 · March 19

I'll be emailing the info regarding this meetup tomorrow. Please keep in mind that the email goes to whichever email you provided to sign up. Some people have said they don't receive the messages, so be sure you check the right account!

So this was a fun (although depressing) read, but I'm not going to be able to make it to the discussion :-(

Yay book club is this Thursday! If you can no longer make it, please update your RSVP. If you can bring a folding chair with you, that would be great :)

Just made an awesome discovery - bookbub.com. If you read books on a Kindle or tablet, you need to check it out! It alerts you when ebooks are on sale or free, according to which types of books you say you like. I'm obsessed.

    March 10

    • Samantha

TONS of free romances for all you smut-lovers, but also lots of recent and popular fiction that are usually not on sale.

Hey guys I saw this list and thought it would be interesting to look at adult books that are related to childhood favorites... Might be fun

We're limiting this one to 25 so that we aren't too crowded in Shaina's home. Please update your RSVP if it turns out you can't make it!

Cried myself through The Fault in Our Stars. So good. Now I'm halfway through This is Where I Leave You and can already tell it's going to make an amazingly hilarious movie. Cannot wait.
