Sept. 17, 7 p.m., "The Light Between Oceans" by M.L. Stedman

*** Donna T. will start our discussion***

Overview
The debut of a stunning new voice in fiction— a novel both heartbreaking and transcendent

After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Tom, whose records as a lighthouse keeper are meticulous and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel has taken the tiny baby to her breast. Against Tom’s judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them.

M. L. Stedman’s mesmerizing, beautifully written novel seduces us into accommodating Isabel’s decision to keep this “gift from God.” And we are swept into a story about extraordinarily compelling characters seeking to find their North Star in a world where there is no right answer, where justice for one person is another’s tragic loss.

The Light Between Oceans is exquisite and unforgettable, a deeply moving novel.

Forget the idea about "File" the under the "More" tab. It's not easy. You have to upload a file. Let's try it as a "Discussion." Discussions can be responded to by anyone. The topic an be Book Suggestions.

Hi All! It was good seeing and hearing from all of you last evening at he Book Club meeting. I have two Questions I would like to share: (1) May we have Name Tag stickers? I struggle to know everyone's name. Not every woman has a picture on the membership list. So, I am proposing this idea to place a NAME with a FACE and aid discussion and interchange by all. If you need me to pick them up, I will gladly do that. ---------------

    (2) At the Top of this page, under the "More" Tab, there is a choice for "File." Can this be a location to create and a List of potential future reads? It would be a list of ideas for us to refer to when selecting the next month's book choice. PERHAPS, it can be opened and added to by any member at anytime. That way, all suggestions would be in a centralized location that could be printed out and brought to meetings. And, each member would have the ability to review (and add to, if she would like). OK that's my two cents!

Hi ladies!! It appears we are blessed with a potentially large # of attendees. As a reminder, we decided last month that if we had 16 or greater we would split into two discussion groups to facilitate good and meaningful conversation. We can make this happen that evening once we see how many of us are present!!! Looking forward to seeing you Tuesday. --Lynn

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
