Come join us for this Coffee - Lafayette Reservoir Hike - Ice Cream - Lunch extravaganza. Choose to do all of them with us, or participate in the portions that interest you. I usually schedule two of these between May and September; this is the first.
We start by meeting for coffee at La Boulange, a quaint little French pastries, coffee and sandwiches cafe. Arrive between 10:00 and 11:00 am and hang out with us next to the water fountain, enjoying French coffee, pastries, quiche, and breakfast sandwiches.
At 11:00 we start our walk which should take 2 hours. This is an easy hike around the Lafayette Reservoir starting at La Boulange. Note that there is a small climb to the reservoir from Mount Diablo Blvd.
On our return we can hang out more at La Boulange for lunch or enjoy some Gelato from Powell's Sweet Shop next door.
If you plan to skip coffee and be there for the hike, make sure you arrive by 11:00 am. If you plan to join us for lunch, plan to be there at 12:45 pm, and when you RSVP let us know you are attending lunch only so we have the sign for you to find us.
La Boulange has parking in the back that is limited to 2 hours. Even though I have never seen them enforce parking, I usually park on Dewing Street or all the way back on Brooke St depending on the No Parking signs which Lafayette changes from time to time. Mount Diablo has parking, but it is metered and not ideal when you hike. You can also park at the BART station which is a 5 minute walk - if you park in BART make sure you park in the smaller lot on the South Side of the freeway (downtown side); access to that lot is through Happy Valley Road. If you plan to leave after the hike, you may want to consider parking at the reservoir or near the reservoir entrance - those parking spots become rare by 11:30 am when we start the hike - so plan accordingly.
Timing. If you walk fast you can do the hike in much less than 2 hours. You may find individuals who prefer that pace and don't minf seperating from the main group.
