Café Français et une Randonnée (Coffee and Hike)

Come join us for this Coffee - Lafayette Reservoir Hike - Ice Cream - Lunch extravaganza. Choose to do all of them with us, or participate in the portions that interest you. I usually schedule two of these between May and September; this is the first.

We start by meeting for coffee at La Boulange, a quaint little French pastries, coffee and sandwiches cafe.  Arrive between 10:00 and 11:00 am and hang out with us next to the water fountain, enjoying French coffee, pastries, quiche, and breakfast sandwiches.

At 11:00 we start our walk which should take 2 hours. This is an easy hike around the Lafayette Reservoir starting at La Boulange. Note that there is a small climb to the reservoir from Mount Diablo Blvd.

On our return we can hang out more at La Boulange for lunch or enjoy some Gelato from Powell's Sweet Shop next door.

If you plan to skip coffee and be there for the hike, make sure you arrive by 11:00 am. If you plan to join us for lunch, plan to be there at 12:45 pm, and when you RSVP let us know you are attending lunch only so we have the sign for you to find us.

La Boulange has parking in the back that is limited to 2 hours. Even though I have never seen them enforce parking, I usually park on Dewing Street or all the way back on Brooke St depending on the No Parking signs which Lafayette changes from time to time. Mount Diablo has parking, but it is metered and not ideal when you hike. You can also park at the BART station which is a 5 minute walk - if you park in BART make sure you park in the smaller lot on the South Side of the freeway (downtown side); access to that lot is through Happy Valley Road. If you plan to leave after the hike, you may want to consider parking at the reservoir or near the reservoir entrance - those parking spots become rare by 11:30 am when we start the hike - so plan accordingly.

Timing. If you walk fast you can do the hike in much less than 2 hours. You may find individuals who prefer that pace and don't minf seperating from the main group.

I have a question. Do you guys meet at the coffee place for a few minutes and then go on the hike? I was try to decide whether to go or not. Don't want to go to the coffee place and no one is there.

Several of you have been on the hike before. Head West (left coming out of La Boulange) on Mt Diablo Blvd. After half a mile make a left into the reservoir, go up the hill. (water and restrooms are at the top pf the hill). Take a right after you get to the top and walk 2.2 miles around the reservoir. There are two or three water stops on the way. You end up on top of the hill where you started. Go down the hill. Make a right, and half a mile later you are at La Boulange. It takes two hours at a moderate pace.
I apologize again, but I am sure you can all have fun without my being there :) I will surely miss the event :(

Hello everyone, I need to make a change on how everyone will meet tomorrow. I (organizer of the event) have been as sick as a dog the last few days, and was hoping I would be better by today but that has not happened.
The events I plan the organizer does two things:
    1) Set up the event on meetup
    2) Show up with a sign/piece of paper that says Walnut Creek International so everyone can find us.
Because I am sick, I won't be able to do the second step tomorrow, but you can proceed without me as anyone attending can do that. Just bring with you a 8.5X11 piece of paper that says Walnut Creek International. With several of you doing that you will be able to meetup with no problems.

There are several members who do speak French well, but most conversation does happen in English, because of the diversity of the group. I myself have lived briefly in France and have relatives there but my French is weak at best :)

    Est-ce qu'on peut parler en français ? :)
