FIFA World Cup 2014 is here!!! 65 games, 1 month of Football and 1 Winner Nation. All games are broadcast in the US on ESPN, ESPN 2, and ABC. I am scheduling 7 of the weekend games as a Meet Up . Since we know who is playing who in stage 1, those games are set. I may make changes to stage 2. The Quarterfinals and the Finals are also set. The Semi-finals happen mid-week.
In order to get space at Stadium Pub we have to be there at least two hours before the game (and even then it is hard), but that is the place to watch football in Walnut Creek (for morning games Stadium Pub does not open before 9 am). They recently starting posting notes that the whole party has to be there to get a table, so we usually get table and those who come later can stand around it (I will gladly give up my seat). The game is 90 minutes of play time + the half time, so give yourself two hours for the game, and two hours before the game.
I may also schedule lunch time mid-week games if anyone is up to watching in San Francisco or San Ramon. Please post notes if you are interested and I will set up something.
Game official start is at 9:00 am
Parking in Walnut Creek can be difficult if you insist on street parking. Meters charge $0.50 an hour and do accept credit cards, but you have to refill after two hours. Most street parking is gone be 10:30. Your other option is one of the three public garages that also charge $0.50 per hour, but there is no 2-hour limit and the first hour is free. Walnut Creek has three of them:
1) Broadway (between Duncan and Cypress - near Mt. Diablo and across from Le Cheval)
2) Locust # 1(between Mt. Diablo and Cypress - Above Lark Creek Restaurant - this place fills up by noon)
3) Locust #2 (near Civic and next to the Dean Lesher Theatre - this place will charge a $5 event fee after 10:30 if the Dean Lesher theater has an event)
