Just curious about the route as I ended up taking a different one - following the Green line on Comm Ave into Boston. Where did you guys get off Commonwealth Avenue?

Yes, it was a very nice run. Cooler at the reservoir was a highlight (I hope Alex checked the Skittles bag). Mike's idea to loop back into Newton via Beacon was a good one. I am not sure where I messed up the math, but I ended up with 20.2.

Nice 20. I got separated from the group after a while and went down a different path, but did the distance anyway.

After running BayState in rain and snow 4 years ago which was real ugly we never know how it will be race day, so I'm still in.

good point Mike I was thinking along the same lines; I don't get to pick race day weather so I might as well practice variety. I double-socked today; synthetic first for no blisters, cotton to prevent slip n slide in wet shoes, in case they get that wet. We'll see how it works.

i'll be there too. maybe the rain will let up.

Looks like there will be periods of rain and showers. I like running in the rain up to a point, so I'm going to go ahead and head out, and see what others say at Brueggers.

    Hi Billy,
We'll talk about paces before the run, but usually people run anywhere from 8 min/mile to 10 or 11 min/mile pace and we'll split into groups. See you tomorrow! -K

Hey, I want to stash a cooler for people with sealed drinks along the course. If I did it at Hammond that would be mile 4 and 16; would that be useful? I don't want to duplicate efforts. I was originally thinking of putting it at Johnny Kelley's statue, but that's mile 2.5/17.5, and there's a water fountain specially for runners (so deluxe) quite close to that point at the house near the corner of Comm and Beaumont. Also where is the halfway point? are we looping around the reservoir?

    September 19, 2013

    • Mike G

We did Beacon last week after 2 loops. After the 2 loops we need 3 miles out and back from that point. There are less lights I think if we go this way, plus more hill training. That is my suggestion I will follow where you guys decide.

    • Alexandra S.

OK, this is good info, thx. I think I'll stick it at either mile 4 or at the reservoir; I'll figure it out when I drop it off that morning. I'm not really worried about people messing with it. If it's at the res people can keep dipping in since we'll pass it multiple times and top off their bottles before the return to Brueggers. Just everybody please be prepared in case some nutcase decides to steal a cooler of gatorade--not my idea of a great haul so fairly unlikely.

    Hi guys,
Thanks. Let me know if you need help. I didn't even think of this due to the water bubbler, convenience store & hydration belt thing. If people want this though, why not? I just don't want it to be unnecessary trouble for you, but very kind to offer! :) I talked about the route with Ian last night. There are many options. I was thinking about looping around the reservoir 3 times, then going up Comm Ave further or turning left onto Beacon. Thoughts? Each times around the reservoir is over 1 mile.

it's football season now, so I figured it would be more convenient to schedule the runs earlier so that people have plenty of time to get to their game-watching spots.

The reason why we are asking is because usually the last couple of meet ups we met at 8.

7:30 am is when it's scheduled to start. let me know why that's confusing. unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, the scheduled time on the meetup says 7:30 am. thanks guys!

I see it posted for 7:30AM at Brueggers. Did you guys plan on moving this around ?

    hi Judy,
typically we have people of all kinds of paces show up. the three folks signed up so far are at about an 8:30 min/mile pace. since this run isn't until the end of september, i'd advise waiting to see if more people sign up. we usually break up into pace groups and meet up at certain points (stop lights) along the way. it tends to always work out!

Hi Kristen, I forgot to ask about the pace. Will anyone be running at about 11 min mi with occasional walk breaks? I'm not fast but would love to join the run if I can keep up. Thanks again, Judy

  • Kristen

good question, judy. we will do about 3 miles on a trail. the rest will be mainly on the carriage road of Comm Ave. i believe this is much less impact than regular pavement if you're concerned about that. there's always the option to stay on the grassy medium of Comm Ave too. it's all about options :)
