Western Greeway 5K - Race 7 of 9 RAW Series

The Western Greenway 5K is trail route starting and finishing at Elsie Turner Field on Trapelo Road in Waltham. The Western Greenway features miles of trails and old carriage roads which loop through a variety of habitats: including cattail marshes, red maple swamps, mature oak-hickory forests, vernal pools, new forests, and open meadows. The course is rocky and unpaved, therefore strollers or baby joggers are not allowed on the course.

Runners will be chip-timed by RaceWire with awards for top male(s) and female(s) finishers in each various age groups. Walkers are especially welcome to participate in this event – come out and enjoy the foliage in one of Waltham’s natural treasures. The event is part of the 2013 Race Around Waltham Series and proceeds will benefit RAW Series events and the Waltham Land Trust. Register at http://racewire.com/event.php?id=1055

Thanks for all the support guys, Kathy and I really appreciate it! Great job on putting the WTRs team together Ron and hopefully we can keep the momentum up. The first three Waltham Wussies definitely covered some tough and technical trails all under 7:00 min per mile. Thank you to Ilya, Jackie and Alex for volunteering and putting my mind at ease knowing I had great people handling the details.

Tim, Will you have teams for the Trick or Treat Trot?

Hi Rita, I am not sure because the I was the Director for the last two events but just an observer for the next two. I can send an email to Doreen at the Guild for Human Services in the morning and ask.

I'll bite. If there's enough interest, happy to put together another team. I know a number of you have other events you're running that weekend, but if we can put together five or six, lets do it. Otherwise, I'm happy to hop on a team as well.

Looks like we've got a team - Sue and Brian S. I did let Tim know you were in, but you might want to check with him, if you're registering day of. Gemma saw your note when you registered! Should be good to go!!

      For reference current team is:

      Ron Ayers
      Sue Clever
      Brian Delaney
      Corinne Jackman
      Brian Sustak
      Gemma Pilkington

Excited that we were able to put together a squad for the WTR. Not only will we be fielding a team that will probably be fairly entertaining, it looks like we'll be very competitive, as well! :)

I was planning on registering day of but I'm up for joining the team if we can get enough people. Does anyone know if 1) the course has been marked yet (I know the facebook page says there's pink ribbons up but I was hoping for something a little more noticeable) and 2) if the course has any significant hills similar to the PBR 5K?

    September 25, 2013

    • Tim I.

Secondly - NO there aren't any hills to speak of. It is a rooty and rocky but very flat. When you are coming out of the meadow and back over the wooden bridge turn sharp LEFT after the bridge keeping the ribbons on your left.

Okay thanks. I'll try and keep an eye out for those pink ribbons this weekend then.
