B-18 Hunt II & 11th Annual Pub Crawl in the Pines (Flagstaff Area)

Description: Escape the heat with cool climate and cold microbrew. Once again we will kick off this get-a-way with is a search for a WWII B-18 bomber which crashed into the San Francisco Peaks back in 1941. This year a more direct route will be taken which was closed off last year. We’ll start at the Snowbowl lodge and hike part way up a ski route. The crash report is vague on the B-18’s location but hunting for it is half the fun anyway. Following the hike, it’s off to downtown Flagstaff for our 11th annual pub crawl. To make for a more relaxed trip, we’ll stay at a hotel in Flagstaff near the pubs Friday night. Saturday morning, we’ll hunt for the B-18 then return to the hotel to shower and change. At 7pm the crawling begins. The plan is to meet at Beaver Street Brewery, hit some more pubs then “crawl” back to the hotel. We’ll return Sunday. See pictures from last year. Arrangements can be made if you want to meet up with us at any point. This event is limited to paid members and their guests. See Membership and Dues.
Cost: Your own food and drink along with your share of lodging and carpooling. For the lodging, 3 hotel rooms have been reserved at the Hyland Country Inn which is walking distance from the pubs. Each room has 2 queen beds and cost $99 + tax. If saving cost is preferred, the rooms can sleep up to 4 people. In the past, it has usually been 3 per room where someone gets the floor.
Difficulty: Moderate, Total Distance: Approx 4 miles
Start Elevation: 9300 ft. Elevation Gain: Approx 1500 ft.
Drive Time: 2 hours, Water to Bring: 2-3 liters.
Meeting Time/Place: 6:00 p.m. Pyle Recreation Center, 6:45 p.m. I17 & Bell Denny’s

RSVP By: Wednesday, July 10, 10pm, Thurs, July 11, 10pm (hike only)

Thanks for joining me for the B-18 hunt and pub crawl. I am pleasantly surprised we found the B-18 and enjoyed the celebration afterwards. Though finding the crash was an adventure, the company made it a fun trip.

What a great hike and adventure. I thought Jeff was on a dream mission to find the B-18 plane, but in the end his careful Engineering planning made it real. That is, he lead us to a successful plane finding. Great job Jeff and thanks for letting me be a part of this successful trip.

Great weekend Jeff! We found the plane this year!! 90% due to Jeff's hard work and expertise in predicting it's whereabouts and 10% me stumbling across it!! Thanks for putting this hike/Pub Crawl together AND for all you do for our club!

Hi hikers and crawlers. This should be a great trip! Hopefully we’ll find the B-18 this year. As for the lodging, I reserved 3 hotel rooms at the Hyland Country Inn which is walking distance from the pubs. Each room has 2 queen beds and cost $99 + tax. If saving cost is preferred, the rooms can sleep up to 4 people. In the past, it has usually been 3 per room where someone gets the floor. Please let me know if you prefer less costs, more space or just want to arrange your own lodging.

I was looking at my schedule and realize I have beginners kayaking II on Saturday morning. So, I cannot attend your happy crashed plane hunt and pub crawl. If by chance you push it back a weekend, I could attend. ;-)
