Bell Trail - Beaver Creek, (North of Camp Verde)

Description: Wet Beaver Creek is located north of Montezuma Well near the Sedona exit on I-17. The trail runs along open exposed trail for the first 2 miles, then descends down to the creek and extends a mile along a well-shaded footpath through the lush rock canyon. Swimming holes are in this area. We will continue on to one of the prime swimming holes in Arizona – the Bell Crossing known as the Crack. There deep water has carved a channel between narrow sandstone walls leaving a natural diving platform rock positioned over a pretty pool just right for diving. Please plan on spending 1 hour at the swimming hole.  Bring a substantial lunch and we'll picnic together.  After the hike we’ll stop at Rock Springs for a slice of their famous pie on our way back to the Valley.
Difficulty: Moderate, Distance RT: 7 miles
Start Elevation: 3880 ft, Elevation Gain: 520 ft
Drive Time: 1 hour 40 min, Water to Bring: 3 liters
Meeting Time/Place: 8:00am Fry's Food Store, 10450 N. 90th Street - SW corner of Shea & 90th Street right off the 101 & Shea)
Directions to Trailhead: From Fry's, take 101N for 18 miles.  Take I-17 N for 84 miles. Take Exit 298 for Hwy 179 (the Sedona exit) but turn east (right) Follow the paved Forest Road 618 for 2 miles southeast, then turn left on FR 618A. The trailhead is about a quarter-mile down a dirt road.
Estimated Return Time: 5:00pm
Leader: Delisse
Minimum Attendees Required: 4
RSVP By: Friday, September 6, 7:00pm
Special Instructions: Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy along the creek and swim suit, towel & water shoes like Tevas or Keens. You can just hop in with your quick-dry hiking clothes as you will drip dry very quickly on the hike out. You’ll need some money if you’re joining us for a slice of world famous pie on the way home.

I enjoyed the day very much! The hike was really nice, with the low clouds hanging from the cliffs and the combination of red rocks and vibrantly green flora. The swimming hole was beautiful, and jumping and swimming in the water felt great. The company was very enjoyable!

    Weather looks
questionable Flash flood warning where we will be. Water may be muddy. It is a long walk in and out if it rains. So, is the outing still on?

The hike is on! Yes, it rained last night and may rain more today. But I re-read all of the hike descriptions. This is not a slot canyon, so no worries of flash flooding. And won't it be a relief to NOT hike in the blazing sun? Let's do it.

Our hike is soon. I'll be at Fry's on 90th & Shea at 8:00 am on Sunday. (Be careful there is another Fry's close by on 90th & Via Linda. DON'T go there.) Lance will meet us at the trailhead at approximately 10 am. Chuck will meet at the McDonald's on Carefree Hwy & I-17 at 8:15. Please let us know where you plan to meet us. Chuck, want to ride with us? It's easy enough for us to stop by and pick you up on our way up the I-17. Let's see who decides to meet where to make the best arrangements.

Hi All, Our trip is Sunday! I’m looking forward to meeting you all, and discovering this amazing place in Arizona together. We’ll spend approximately an hour enjoying the swimming hole and eating lunch, so please bring something to eat and some good water shoes to enjoy swimming. And you’ll likely need 3 liters of water. It’s hot! This is an intermediate level hike of 7 miles with a 1200 foot elevation gain. Please make sure that you are in the condition needed to keep up with an average intermediate pace. If you are considering canceling, please do sooner rather than later so that others may be informed they can come on the hike. See you Sunday morning!
