Description: A backpacking/camping adventure in the Sierra Nevada Mountains! On Sunday September 2nd we will drive to Lone Pine California (8 hour drive) and spend the night in a motel. On Monday morning (Labor Day) a short drive to the trailhead and a full day ascent up the mountains. The eastern slopes are much steeper than the west side so with a fairly strenuous full day hike, we will reach the high elevation back country (8 miles, 3500’ elevation gain) and set up base camp at 3rd lake. We will go on day hikes Tuesday and Wednesday to a glacier and the upper lakes and then head back down on Thursday. We will spend Thursday night in Lone Pine before heading back to Phoenix Friday morning. Trip details here.
