B-18 Hunt & 10th Annual Pub Crawl in the Pines (Flagstaff Area)

Description: Escape the heat with cool climate and cold microbrew. The first part of this get-a-way is a search for a WWII B-18 bomber which crashed into the San Francisco Peaks back in 1941. We’ll start at the Snowbowl lodge, hike part way up a ski route and then go cross-country a little ways. The crash report is vague on the B-18’s location but hunting for it is half the fun anyway. Following the hike, it’s off to downtown Flagstaff for our 10th annual pub crawl. To make for a more relaxed trip, we’ll stay at a hotel in Flagstaff near the pubs Friday night. Saturday morning, we’ll hunt for the B-18 then return to the hotel to shower and change. At 7pm the crawling begins. The plan is to meet at Beaver Street Brewery, hit some more pubs then “crawl” back to the hotel. We’ll return Sunday. Arrangements can be made if you want to meet up with us at any point. This trip is limited to paid members. See Membership and Dues.

I'm happy this hike and pub crawl worked out. Thanks all for making it happen. Too bad we didn't find the crash site. Maybe next time?

This was a wet adventure with the rain and an interesting "OFF Trail" journey. I now know the true meaning of "Bush Wacking". The pub crawl was also a nice social event for me and my wife. Like always Jeff, Thanks for organizing this hike and crawl.

Here we go! Let's get wet! Hope everyone is ready. I might not be packed yet, but I am mentally ready to get out of the valley. See you at 6pm at the Pyle!

Don't forget your rain gear. It looks like a good chance of rain. See everyone tomorrow.

I have to make a last minute hiking route change as I found out today the ski routes are closed for repairs. We will now be hiking part way on the Kachina trail then cross-country up to the crash site. It will add about 1 mile and 200ft gain to the hike.

Jeff, I made hotel reservations at the Rodeway Inn which is next to the Hyland Country Inn. I did this because the Hyland Country Inn was full on July 13th. This message is just a FYI message. My wife and I will still travel with the group up to Flagstaff and participate in the evning Crawl. Also, I am still going to hike with the group (leaving from the subway). Like Always, thanks for setting up this event.

Directions: From where I17 turns into Milton Rd. in Flagstaff, continue north on Milton. It will turn into route 66. Shortly after the road bends to the right, turn left on Humphreys St. Continue on Humphrey to where it ends at Fort Valley Plaza just after crossing hwy 180. The Subway will be here.

Saturday morning we will meet 8 AM at the Subway located 1000 N Humphreys St, Flagstaff, 86001. We can get lunch for the hike there too. If you are leaving from the Pyle Center, plan on 2.5 hrs drive time.

If we're coming up Saturday just for the hike what time do we need to be there and where should we meet you? Just trying to gauge drive time - thanks!

Hi hikers and crawlers. This should be a great trip! As for the lodging, I reserved 3 hotel rooms at the Hyland Country Inn which is walking distance from the pubs. Each room has 2 queen beds and cost $89 + tax. If saving cost is preferred, the rooms can sleep up to 4 people. In the past, it has usually been 3 per room where someone gets the floor. Please let me know if you prefer less costs, more space or just want to arrange your own lodging.

Jeff. My wife is going to join us for the pub crawl and over night stay in the hotel, but she will not join the hike. While I am hiking with the club members she will shop in Flagstaff. Also, my wife and I will stay in the hotel Friday night and Saturday night. Please email me the hotel information so I can make hotel reservation for us. Thanks, Joe V.

Hi, I am new to the group; Melissa, may I carpool with you and pitch in for the gas? Please let me know, thanks.

Actually, there is a trailhead about 1.5 miles form the hotel. It starts at the Walmart but turns into a wooded trail fairly quick. It ends at the fair grounds after 3 miles. It makes for a good trail run.
