Butterfly Trail (Northeast of Tucson)

Description: Located in the cool forest setting of the Catalina Mountains, the Butterfly trail is very scenic with a variety of trees, wildflowers and butterflies (hence the name). There are some great east-west views along the way. If you love nature, you may not want to miss this hike. After setting up a shuttle, we will start at the Palisades Center trailhead (facilities available) and end at the Soldier Camp trailhead.
Difficulty: Moderate-Diffcult, Distance RT: 5.7 miles
Start Elevation: 7,700 ft, Elevation Gain: 2,000 ft
Drive Time: 2.5 hours, Water to Bring: 3 liters
Meeting Time/Place: 7:00AM Pyle Recreation Center

Special Instructions: Bring lunch. There is a $7 entrance fee per vehicle. If up for it, we can stop in Tucson for some food and refreshments afterwards.

    The weather is looking ideal. It should be a great hike. If anyone is interested there is a plane crash site of about 100 yards off the trail we can check out. It is an F86 saber jet fighter from 1965. See everyone tomorrow.
