Parade of Parks (moderate or difficult)

We’ll do a circuit hike of 14 or 23 miles (you choose) on natural- and unnatural-surface trails in DC and MD (long hike) parklands, with some gentle elevation change. The short version is moderate (3 blisters) and the long version is difficult (4.5 blisters).

Parks/trails we’ll cover include the C&O Canal National Historical Park, Capital Crescent Trail, Glover-Archibold Park, Whitehaven Park, Dumbarton Oaks Park, Rock Creek Park, National Zoological Park, and either the Melvin C. Hazen Park (short version) or the Georgetown Branch Trail (long version)—a veritable parade!

We'll meet at Fletcher's Boat House lower parking lot, off Canal Rd. (Careful entering the driveway! Google link: For directions, see Leaders are myself and Gary Kosciusko.

Bring food and drink, or $ to buy. You’ll proceed at your own pace and you may stop (or not) anytime to eat. This hike occurs rain or shine, cold or warm, so dress appropriately.

Although open to all, this hike is part of a series of training hikes leading up to the One Day Hike (ODH)—100 or 50 km along the C&O Canal-on April 27, 2013. Registration for the ODH is currently closed because it has reached the maximum number of registrants; it may reopen as cancellations are received. See for more information.
