Join us for a ~7.5 mile out-and-back hike to the popular Annapolis Rock and Black Rock Cliff overlooks along the Appalachian Trail in western Frederick County, MD. The overlooks, with 180-degree views of the scenic Cumberland Valley below, provide two of the most spectacular views in the area. This is an easy-to-moderate hike (2.3 blisters) with about 840 feet of elevation gain. Much of the route is along the ridge, with most of the elevation gain occurring near the beginning of the hike.
You can meet us at either the trailhead parking lot at 1:00 p.m. (parking area on south side of US40; http://tinyurl.com/lb79d29) or the Shady Grove Metro’s east side Kiss & Ride (the side with the parking garages; http://tinyurl.com/dx2a4jh) at 12:00 p.m. for carpooling.
The hike will take about four hours. For those interested, we’ll have an optional stop on the way back to enjoy some beer and food at Mays Restaurant in Frederick.
