Topics: This second class covers all aspects of planning a backpacking trip, including trip selection, route, difficulty, distance, weather, water and purification options, food, equipment, and emergencies. You will learn how to read and interpret topographic maps and learn navigation tips. We will also cover the basics of Leave No Trace, provide training tips, and go over first-aid kits and the handling of common emergencies. Finally, we will discuss the upcoming trip in detail, including logistics.
Registration: Attendance for classes and trip is limited and requires registration. Class size is limited to 20 people; students must be 16 or older. Each class costs $20 for expenses; payment (check or PayPal) in advance will confirm your spot. You may register for either or both classes. (Contact Liz directly at [masked] to register.)

Where: Bethesda Club Room, White Flint Station Condos, 11800B Old Georgetown Road, North Bethesda, MD (http://goo.gl/yZLGhb). The entrance is at the corner of the building, across from a construction site, and the room is on your right just after entering. The location is one block north of the Red Line’s White Flint Metro station. Street meter parking is free on weekends and there is a Metro parking garage one block away that is also free on weekends.
