We are stuck with still another weekend of beautiful weather and extended fall colors. Why not take a gamble with a no-grumbling ramble at the beautiful nearby Gambrill State Park that offers grand autumn views of the Frederick and Middletown Valleys? The hike of 4.2 mile and 1700’ elev. change (rated mostly easy, 1.7 blisters) takes in two loop trails, Black Locust (3.3 mi.) and White Oak (0.9 mi.). Note that parts of these are rocky.
We’ll meet relatively late (9:30 am, tomorrow) to give me…er, I mean, to give you a chance to get a little extra sleep. Meet at Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro, near the station entrance. We’ll also have (an optional) lunch in nearby historic olde Frederick.
Leaders are Sankar Sitaraman (202/[masked]) and me ([address removed]) for the event, which is a co-production of the Nature Lovers and Wandering Soles MeetUps, and the Sierra Club Potomac Region Outings.
Looking backwards: Pics from our Nov 7 Gettysburg hike, ghost walk, and dinner (2 blisters, 2 goose bumps, and 2 burps!)
Looking forwards: The Antietam Battlefield Hike & Illumination Drive, followed by dinner at the Old South Mountain Inn, is on Dec 4. The dinner is almost full, but I can add you to a wait list in the order I receive deposits. To reserve a dinner spot, send a $10/person reservation deposit. (Make check payable to me and send to POB 2308, Rockville, MD 20847, or send via PayPal to this address.) I’ll accept reservations (that means payment in hand) until Nov 27 as long as room lasts. People who express interest in attending (w or w/o din-din), will get additional info in a couple of weeks. The hike is 11 miles (moderate and ~2.5 blisters), with shorter options available.
